Global Integrated Energy Company

Cloud Transformation

CLIENT

The client is a global integrated energy company with annual revenues exceeding $180 billion and approximately 43,000 employees worldwide. Its businesses span the energy value chain, including exploration and production, refining, chemicals, transportation, and power generation.

CHALLENGE

The client was transitioning their core end user computing environment to Microsoft 365, impacting all employees, contractors and third-party partners. The objective of this transformation was to capture the collaboration improvement and cost savings associated with the cloud, while maintaining safe reliable IT operations.

APPROACH

  • Facilitated the IT Leadership Team through a redesign of their five-year strategy and secure the critical ownership of this transformation

  • Socialized the new IT Strategy with Executive Leadership to ensure endorsement and support across functions during a time when oil markets were extremely volatile

  • Formed six separate projects under a single Cloud Program: SharePoint Online, Exchange Online, Office 365, OneDrive, Window 10, and Mobile

  • Formed an integrated program management office (PMO) to provide consolidated common services across the projects, including change management, communications, training, operational process and role mapping, metrics, governance and project controls

  • Leveraged a self-service deployment model with commoditized training, change management and support materials to decrease the cost of deployment and consulting services

  • Facilitated future state operational process and role mapping workshops to define a “single version” of the future state, and understand organizational capability gaps from current to future state

  • Architected and managed the detailed communications plans across the program and each project – engaging appropriately across the organizational hierarchy

  • Monitored key metrics throughout the program lifecycle to test and improve the technology usability, deployment, change management, training

RESULTS

  • Strong leadership sponsorship across the business

  • New lower cost change and deployment approach for future IT implementations

  • Full business adoption

  • Successful transition of over 60,000 users
